Brew & Bread Coffee Bar, Kota Kemuning: Addicted to Coffee and Eggs Waldorf!

A Cup of Addiction and Art!

One lovely Sunday morning, we visited my sister’s house in Kota Kemuning. Feeling ravenous, we were recommended Brew & Bread Coffee Bar by my nieces who raved and raved about this coffee bar. A passion for coffee, Brew & Bread takes their coffee seriously. Serving the infamous Italian premium Illy Coffee, Brew & Bread also serves up fine food for breakfast, brunch and light meals for lunch and dinner.

We entered into a world of coffee aroma and luscious array of breads at first sight. The quaint café is comfortably decorated with plush sofas and furniture. I like how the whole place uses natural elements to create a natural ambience with plenty of sunlight shinning in from its glass windows. Lots of cushions, decorative art, even the lights are artistically made. Feeling bored? I spied board games! It’s really a perfect place for some liquid and solid replenishment while enjoying some leisure moments with family, friends or even a laptop!

We glance through the menu and put in our order for their signature coffees, juice and food. The aroma that whiffed across the whole café is such a pleasure! I read on their blog that they pride themselves in using La Marzocco coffee machine to bring out the best of Illy coffee beans. This is some serious coffee enthusiast!

There is also a glass chiller showing off desserts! Apparently these are all homemade. I would love to go back for these sometime soon.

As usual, we whipped out our lens and start capturing the whole affair. My family has given up on me, saying that I could never have a meal without taking pictures… he he he!

I was so enchanted with the coffee art, I requested for permission to take some action of the barista… J

Oh gosh, it’s just amazing to see how he drew the coffee art by swirling the milk or cream and finishing it with a thin stick by drawing some touches! Makes me want to go and get a Barista certification…

He finished our cute Cappucino bear in a jiffy!  Super cute!!

When the Cappucino (RM7) arrived, my little one, faster than a speeding bullet, took a swirl in it before I could even take a picture… lol. Oh well, the coffee tasted really yummy. I stole a sip and was highly awarded with a good whiff of strong brewed cappuccino. It also has a good dose of the creamy signature cappuccino foam.

I had the Iced Latte (RM9) simply because I am such a cold drink lover! Slightly above my expectation, the latte here is beautiful. Normally with Iced Lattes, it tends to be a bit weak once the ice is added. At Brew & Bread, I saw that they used two shots of espresso to make it stronger with the milk.

My little one clapped his hands when his drink arrived!! Actually, I clapped too… ha ha ha! Angry Bird coffee art in Hot Chocolate (RM7). Isnt this simply adorable?  Good dose of chocolate and was creamy and aromatic. There wasn’t a doubt that the little one finished this to the last drop.

We also ordered an icy sensation of Blended Raspberry (RM9). The flavors were refreshing and tangy, a notation that real bits of raspberry were used since there was a slight texture of the raspberry seeds. Fruity and thirst-quenching!

My niece had the Hot Mocha (RM8) which she adored as she said it had just the right balance of coffee with chocolate.

Our meals arrived and we glee with much excitement. Food always makes me excited… especially when it looked like this! I have had Egg Benedicts (RM18) before but I haven’t heard of Egg Waldorf (RM18). According to the menu, it’s quite similar to its famous relative but it has wild mushrooms instead of ham.

One look at the gorgeous yellow Hollandaise and I fell in love! Poached egg with sautéed wild mushrooms and fresh juicy cuts of tomato, all crowning a fresh Ciabatta and topped with the luscious creamy hollandaise. A quick cut and the golden egg yolk flow out into a pool of oblivion! Earthy flavors from the mushrooms gave the whole dish a beautiful twist while the perfectly poached egg completed the prefecture of the dish. The portion is quite sizable and small eaters could actually share this as there are two poached eggs. For me, I gladly monopolize the dish to myself for pure satiation.

It is indeed truly beautiful in every bite! This has become my benchmark for Egg Benedicts simply because of the luscious silky and creamy hollandaise and the perfect poached egg.

Truffle Mushrooms on Ciabatta (RM9) is a hot sandwich nicely toasted and filled with a variety of mushrooms and caramelized onions. It has a good toastie comfort while the soft and warm mushrooms are juicy and succulent with hints of pepper. It’s another warm and earthy dish which my family enjoyed simply for its simple and basic flavors of the mushrooms and sweet onions.

I was curious. Tangerine Dory (RM17) wasn’t something I would order at a glance but I am glad my family did. Nicely pan seared, the dory was served with a tangy citrus sauce and blood orange with fennel. The gentle flavors of the dory were really well paired with the orange sauce, making the dish easy to enjoy and light. When I savored this dish, it was already cold but the flavors were still delicious!

Chicken Roulade (RM18) is chicken thigh rolled up with stuffing. The version here had the roulade sitting in rich brown gravy and some strokes of pumpkin mash. Juicy and deep flavors of the chicken thigh are nicely pumped up with some crunch of textures in the stuffing. High points from me go to the creamy sweet pumpkin mash which I really enjoyed with the chicken. I like how Brew & Bread gives a good sizable portion of the main and less sides of carbohydrates so one can enjoy them without much guilt!

What a find! Brew & Bread not only serves up great and beautiful coffees but their food is really something to look out for. I have nothing but praise for this hidden coffee bar. A must-order is their Egg Benedicts or Eggs Waldorf and hot sandwiches. Pasta is also available while their brunch selection of March of Soldiers (M.O.S) and Prosciutto Eggs had me really curious. Prices are so decent considering the quality and portion of the food plus one gets to enjoy the gorgeous coffee art and good brews.

Obviously, the folks at Brew & Bread are so passionate about serving quality food and coffee that they also make it really affordable for a lovely treat. Yes, they even bragged about not charging GST and service charge to their menu!

*Brew & Bread will be sharing complimentary cups of hot coffee on their coming 1st Anniversary on 11th November 2012. Check out their Facebook for more details!
