Midori Japanese Restaurant @ Putrajaya Marriott Hotel

Bountiful Japanese Buffet… Bigger and Better!

Not everything is bigger and better but when it comes to buffets, bigger and better sound pretty good right? Midori Japanese Restaurant is back with a hefty Japanese buffet that is bigger and better than before. The Japanese restaurant Putrajaya Marriot Hotel is renowned for its mouthwatering spread of Japanese dishes set in a Japanese Zen themed ambiance.

The whole dining space is decorated with minimal theme to reflect a calming and Zen ambiance. The main dining room is spacious with a wide center walkway. Earthy tones are complemented by soothing green hues throughout the restaurant. Green bamboo plants added more charm to the theme. There are also private rooms available as well.

Midori’s Bountiful Japanese Buffet is perfect for foodies who enjoy a luscious variety of Japanese delicacies from classics to modern dishes. Available only every Saturday, the Bountiful Japanese Buffet has lots of dishes to cater to every one of all ages. Besides just the buffet line, diners are treated to ‘Chef’s Happy Hour’ at the buffet. Read on to find out what Midori’s ‘Chef Happy Hour’ are…

That Saturday evening when we visited, Midori was certainly filled with lots of diners. Glad that we were early to be able to capture the spread of yummy dishes before the diners arrived.

First up, diners will enjoy a fresh Oyster Shooter to whet your palate for the rest of the deliciousness to come…

In every Japanese meal, it is only fair to say that one should start at the Sashimi and Sushi bar. Sashimi are freshly cut to order so simply tell the chefs behind the bar on what you like and they will cut the sashimi slices to your liking.

My Sashimi cuts of Salmon, Tuna and Butterfish was thick and gorgeous. The fish was fresh and delicious with a light dip at the soy sauce and a smear of wasabi.

A variety of Sushi and handrolls are also available. From Salmon, Tuna, Octopus and Inari Sushi to super yummy Tempura Prawn rolls and Soft Shell Crab rolls and more, I certainly had to hold back on sampling all these rolls and sushi to keep my tummy space for other Japanese dishes.

There are also Fresh Oysters on ice, all beautifully shucked and kept chilled.

In front of the Sushi and Sashimi bar, there is an island that has a variety of Japanese appetizers. Savor Chuka Idako (Baby Octopus), Sunomono Moriawase, Edamame, Nasu or Eggplant, Seaweed and more.

Visit the Salad Bar and Fruit Bar for some healthy greens and fruits…

Head over to the next room for hot buffet and live stations. Taking centerstage is the Teppanyaki station where fresh ingredients of chicken, beef, seafood and vegetables are placed on the buffet line for diners to select their choices for Teppanyaki-to-order.

Hot buffet warmers features Baked Oysters, Tempura Prawns, Chicken Karaage, Fried Cuttlefish, Grilled Salmon in Salt, Grilled Sanma Shio, Steamed Crab and more.

If you must have your carbs, there’s Garlic Fried Rice, Soba and Udon bar as well as Kimuchi Ramen bar.

There is also Nimono, a seafood and vegetable stew as well as Sukiyaki Bar with chicken and beef. I love the soothing flavours of Sukiyaki and the tender slices of meat.

Chawan Mushi, always a crowd pleaser…

Here comes the ‘Chef’s Happy Hour’ part that sets Midori apart from other Japanese buffets. Midori’s ‘Chef Happy Hour’ has their chefs making rounds at the restaurant with tasting palate-teasing samplers from 7pm to 8pm delivered right at your table!

That evening, Chef Fauzi was making rounds with gorgeous long Roasted Beef Tenderloin served with a lightly sweet and savory sauce. I had mine medium and it was so marvelously juicy and scrumptious.

There was also another special of Baked Cheese Slipper Lobster that was the crowd favorite because it was gone in a jiffy as soon as it was out fresh from the oven!

Save some room for desserts as there is an Ice Kacang station, Cakes and Tart, Dorayaki Pancakes with Red Bean and Honey and plenty of chilled Puddings and Jellies as well as Fresh Fruits to end the evening with.
