Cheng Ho Court, Mines Wellness Hotel: Toss of Joyous Laughter with A Healthy Chinese New Year Menu!

Wishing Everyone ‘Nian Nian You Yue’!

My next Chinese New Year expedition landed at Cheng Ho Court at Mines Wellness Hotel. From my first experience, I was already set with certain expectation with Cheng Ho Court. Well known for healthy Cantonese cuisine using fresh and organic ingredients, one can be assured of healthy and quality dishes from their veteran Chef Chin Hock Seng, a chef with a belt of knowledge of more than 27 years!

So what’s in store for the 14 year old restaurant this coming Chinese New Year?

The obligatory dish of Yee Sang featuring the ever-popular Salmon Loh Sang was accompanied by the medley of fresh and pickled vegetables with addition of slivers of jelly fish.

A lovely swirl of plum sauce to jazz up the Yee Sang!

I always like to take pictures of everyone when we get together. To me, pictures are precious as they capture moments to create printed memories!

The group really set a record for tossing this round! I don’t think I have seen such a high tossing of Yee Sang ever… hehehe. J

The Yee Sang is fairly simple and featured a host of ingredients and sauce which had a great balance of sweet and sour taste. One notable factor is the addition of jelly fish added a lovely crunchy texture to the whole dish.

Braised Assorted Dried Seafood Soup with Crab Meat had all the essential flavors and textures to make up for a good soup. Chunks of crab meat and dried scallop made up the flavors among shark’s fin and a dash of vinegar perked up the soup even more.

A pretty bright presentation of Deep Fried Chicken with Plum Sauce proved that classic dishes always prevail. I like the crisp skin and the lightness of the plum sauce… delicious!

Deep Fried Red Snapper Fish with Vinegar Sauce deserved a thumb up!! The fish was fried till crispy but had retained soft and flaky meat inside. I love vinegar and so the scrumptious dark sauce with a good hint of sourness and sweetness added the pizzazz to the fish!

A platter of neatly arranged prawns never fails to catch everyone’s attention! Baked Tiger Prawn with Special Chef Sauce had large prawns brightly red and coated in a garlic, chili and spring onion sauce. Juicy & succulent… J

For our vegetable course, a medley asparagus, celery, lotus root, and carrot topped with roasted almond flakes sum up Stir-Fried Vegetables with Almond Flakes. Superbly pungent with garlic, the vegetables was surprising sweet and crunchy. For a person who does not like too much garlic, I actually enjoyed this very well and wanted more!

Our carbohydrate course was another traditional dish of Claypot Rice with Preserved Meat. As this is a ‘Halal’ restaurant, the rice was filled with loads of shredded waxed duck and bits of mushrooms that filled the air with a heavenly scent. My only gripe for this dish was it was a tad too salty.

For desserts, we savored a Fancy Duet of Red Bean Mochi and Fried Nian Gao together with one of my all-favorite Chilled Sea Coconut with Longan and Lemon. The combination of textures from the soft chewy mocha with crispy Chinese New Year cake sandwiched with yam and fried to a crisp was really nice. Not too sweet but just perfect for my sweet tooth. Needless to say, I love the sea coconut lighted with lemons!

The set course meal we savored was priced at RM788.00++. The Chinese New Year menu featured a nice set of classic dishes that also radiated the usage of fresh and healthy ingredients and techniques. Coupled with a tranquil environment and a spectacular view of a shimmering 150-acre lake that glowed with a horizon of lights in the evening, I would say this is a fabulous restaurant to consider for a lovely meal with family or friends!

Prices range from RM788.00++, RM888.00++, RM1,088.00++ and RM1,588.00++ per table of ten respectively. The promotion is valid from now until 1st January till 7th February 2012. In addition, one cannot leave without having Loh Sang hoping for abundance of health, wealth, luck and prosperity.  Be tantalized for a medley of Yee Sang selection: Abalone Yee Sang, Salmon & Snow Pear Loh Sang, Salmon Loh Sang, Seaweed and Baby Octopus Loh Sang and Jellyfish Loh Sang.
