Planter’s Inn, Crowne Plaza Mutiara Kuala Lumpur: A Melting Pot of Semarak Ramadhan Buffet!

Indulge in a Melting Pot of Pleasures at Planter’s Inn Ramadhan Buffet!

It’s been a journey of Buka Puasa and Ramadhan feast and one of my last few stops ended up at Planter’s Inn at Crowne Plaza Mutiara Kuala Lumpur.  No stranger here since I also visited their Ramadhan feast last year, I was looking forward to be spoilt as Planter’s Inn is famous for offering a mind-boggling list of Buka Puasa spread each year. Check out last year’s Ramadhan here.

A place where great food tradition and people meet, Planter’s Inn themed Semarak Ramadhan is certified 100% Halal. This year, Crowne Plaza Mutiara’s fabulous Executive Chef Ridzuan, Chef Ishak and Kitchen Brigade have put together a delicious mix of some of the most exquisite traditional Malaysian recipes from all over Malaysia! Chef Ridzuan’s motto for this Ramadhan is “Fresh, Refreshing, Variety, and Don’t Waste”.

“Fresh” is for all the live cooking stations that cook up the delicious dishes on the spot, “Refreshing” is for the traditional beverages like Teh Tarik Tongkat Ali and Kopi Kacip Fatimah to help boost energy, plus health conscious food choices with less sugar and santan but retaining all the full flavored tastes, “Variety” is for all the different dishes available from not only Malay, but Chinese, Indian, Asian, Middle Eastern and Western, including some traditional Malaysian Fusion recipes. “Don’t Waste” gives one the choice of enjoying more variety, presented in smaller bite sizes so one can choose to take small or large portions of their favorite dishes.

Be entertained while you dine at Planter’s Inn with the Ghazal live band performance!

Stepping into Planter’s Inn, a sense of déjà vu hits me immediately as I was greeted with a long row of ‘Kampung’ style stalls even before the entrance of the restaurant.   This year, Planter’s Inn is proud to offer 12 stalls, each offering sumptuous local and international dishes with chefs preparing the food fresh on the spot. Lots of favorites from last year are also present plus new dishes are added on to the luscious array of mouth-watering spread!

Hitting the stalls, check out classics of Gulai Daging Campur Dengan Umbut Kelapa, Kelapa Muda Dan Tomato simmering in the huge kawah, Fried Fish Roe with Tumeric and Onion, Fish Head Curry with Okra and Brinjal, Beef Masala, Lamb Dalca and Stir Fried Bendi and Dried Shrimp in warmed claypots.

Dunk Roti, Roti Jala or Murtabak into the luscious Dalcha or curries to cure carbohydrate addictions.

How about a Nasi Briyani with Prawns and Egg? Aromatic with spices, the rice is fluffy-li-cious!

Visit the Middle East stall for a taste of Shawarma, slow grilled chicken stuffed into pita bread and topped up with Fattoush, Tabouleh and load up with Homous and Metabal! Oh… did I mention that I also piled on tangy yoghurt sauce? J

Succumb to the temptation of Marinated Roasted Whole Lamb with Garlic & Lemongrass served with sides of sauces of Rosemary, BBQ, Mustard, Thyme Garlic, Shallot Salsa, Coriander Mango Salsa, Mint and Horseradish Cream. My platter of the tender moist lamb was truly satisfying!

Visit the traditional authentic Malay cuisine featuring Lemangs, Ketupat, Serundings and Rendangs! This year, Executive Chef Ridzuan and Chef Ishak have whipped up a series of sumptuous Rendang Rusa, Rendang Ayam and Rendang Daging to tempt your appetite. High on the list is the beautiful tender Rendang Rusa of course!

Another counter filled with Fried Chicken Wings, Fried Flower Crabs, Prawns and Squid are also a must-visit together with Keropok Lekor and Otak-Otak!

Get your noodle fix with Wantan, Laksa Assam, Mee Rebus, Laksa Johor, Bandong, Nyonya Curry!

End on a high note with Desserts… local to international, there is just a little something for everyone from young to the elders.

Local Kuihs like Tepung Talam, Keria, Tepung Pelita, Ketayap, Seri Muka, Lepat, Kuih Talam, Bingka Pisang, Kuih Sagu, Kuih Badak, Kolie Kacang, Keria, Tapai and more are simply too tempting while hot sweet desserts like Kacang Hijau dengan Durian, Pengat Ubi dengan Sago, Bubur Cha Cha, Pengat Labu, Pengat Pisang Bersago, Bubur Jagung, Serawa Durian and Pulut Sira Pisang warms up the heart and tummy.

  1. It's been a while since I've been to Crowne Plaza. They used to have a bubbly Sunday brunch that was pretty good.
