Zuan Yuan, One World Hotel: Celebrate Dragon Boat Festival with Bundled Treasures!

A Tradition of Bundled Treasures!

Another escapade in honors of the coming Duanwu or Dragon Boat Festival landed in Zuan Yuan, One World Hotel. Zuan Yuan has graciously presented this year’s creation of three delectable unique flavors of Rice Dumpling created by Chef Jordan Chin in honors of the coming festival. From lavish to healthy, Chef Chin has especially taken customer’s request and feedback into account for this year’s creations.

Hong Kong-style Rice Dumpling with Preserved Chinese Sausages and Duck (RM25++) looked innocent enough when unwrapped. My first taste of Rice Dumpling encasing the traditional waxed meats and sausages was indeed very pleasurable.

Once unveiled, it was certainly a bundled treasure unfold right in our eyes! Luxuriously studded with lots of preserved Chinese sausages, goose liver sausages, smoked duck and preserved duck, the aroma was heady in a glorious way. Flavors echoed of the preserved salty meats while creamy hulled mung beans, lotus seeds and salted egg yolk balance up the rich meats. A version of the infamous preserved meat rice all nicely bundled up… superb!!

If you are feeling extravagant, do go for the Zuan Yuan Abalone Herbal 5-Grain Rice Dumplings (RM52++). With more than 20 ingredients in the dumpling, balancing up the flavors is no easy feat!

A luxurious cum healthy dumpling, this is has a five- grain rice of glutinous, wild rice, red rice, brown rice and barley to produce a light and creamy soft texture of the dumpling. This lavish dumpling has a whole abalone buried in the soft rice like a treasure. Generously accompanied by roast duck meat, dried scallop, salted egg yolk, chestnut and more, the hefty dumpling weighs a good 600 – 700gm each cooked. Surprisingly light in flavors, it exuded a healthy and wholesome dumpling to enjoy this festival with family and friends.

For desserts, there is the Sweet Glutinous Rice Dumplings with Homemade Green Bean Paste (RM8++). Made with alkaline, the dumpling encased a creamy sweet green bean paste. Good balance as the sweetness was light and very enjoyable.

Besides dumplings, Zuan Yuan also offers a delectable menu of dainty morsels of dim sum.

A good start to warm the tummy was its Steamed Seafood Dumpling with Superior Stock and Shark’s Fin.

The broth was a rich amber stock filled with a lovely seafood essence! Diving in, we managed to detect another bundled treasure of the sea from scallops, prawns, mushrooms and more.

Xiao Long Bao was good but I would like a bit more broth in the dumpling. Nevertheless, this was satisfying with a quick dip in black vinegar and julienned ginger.

Seafood Dumpling was a pretty dim sum encasing small chunks of seafood and flying fish roes. Juicy and sweet, I adored this a lot!

Crispy Bean Curd Roll fried till golden and crisp. Light on the outside and filled with seafood paste inside, enjoying this was easy!

At last, I was too busy admiring this dim sum that I forgot its name! Artiscally shaped to represent a blossom, the Crispy Roll was superb in texture and flavors. A dollop of mayonnaise added further richness to the spring roll like dim sum.

Steamed Wild Rice & Glutinous Rice with Mushroom and Roasted Duck was a version of the infamous ‘Lo Mai Kai’. Smoked Duck was delicious in this combination.

Stir Fried HK Kai Lan with Garlic

Glorious yellow wobbly Egg Tart never fails to make me a happy camper! J

Ending the lovely dumpling affair was a Chilled Aloe Vera infused with Lemon Grass. Light and simply refreshing, the lemon grass jelly was a sweet touch. Pieces of aloe vera also added texture and bite to the dessert.

Chef Jordan Chin and his creations!
