Paradise Inn, Sunway Pyramid: Savor Scrumptious Chinese Signatures with The World of Cravings Promotion!

Back at Paradise Inn for their Amazing Traditional Double-Boiled Soups and More!

We love classics. It will always have a place in our hearts for a reason. Recently, I was back to Paradise Inn at Sunway Pyramid mall for a sneak peak at their signatures in conjunction with their World of Cravings promotions for the whole month of April 2014. The World of Cravings runs from 1 – 30 April 2014 and is set to offer many gastronomic highlights in the mall during this promotion. From offers to discounts to freebies and even a point award system, Sunway Pyramid has plenty of excitement to offer everyone all under one roof! Do read on more about The World of Cravings promotion via Sunway Pyramid Mobile App at the end of this post.

When I had first patronized Paradise Inn, I was absolutely bowled over by their signature healthy and nutritional double-boiled soups. My previous memories here and here are filled with much delicious fondness. Paradise Inn has been dishing out traditional comfort food perfected with refine flavors at their traditional Chinese Inn infused with modern influences ambience since 2012. It’s the place to go for classic Chinese dishes filled with much comfort.

The restaurant is also great simply for a family meal or get together with friends or business functions. The ambience is really lovely with its design of warm lite interior of Chinese touches made modern. The mixed of grey walls with natural wood and light blue Chinese motif design exudes a comfortable and elegant place to dine-in.

We arrived and started our meal with Paradise Inn’s must-have signature Floral & Herb-Infused Hot Teas. The teas are the restaurant’s own concoction of dried flowers, herbs and dried fruits which has many health benefits. We tried all four teas since there were quite a few of us.

From left to right:
Jasmine, Osmanthus, Dried Longan & Chrysanthemum
Forget Me Not, Rose, Dried Longan & Chrysanthemum
Lavender, Rosemary, Dried Longan & Chrysanthemum
Lily Flower, Forget Me Not, Dried Longan & Chrysanthemum

My favorite was the Forget Me Not, Rose, Dried Longan & Chrysanthemum as the aroma was so pretty and delicious. A lovely fragrance of the flowers harmonizes perfectly with a tinge of sweetness. The tea is soothing and lends a sense of calmness to the soul.

It is only right to start our meal with Paradise Inn’s signature soups. Our choices for that night were Double-Boiled Black Chicken with Ginseng Soup and Double-Boiled Water Goby with Fresh Apple Soup. The soups are served in a heavy dark claypot to keep it warm. A pot of these soups will serve from 2 to 4 people. The base pork broth alone takes up to a good few hours before other ingredients are added in to produce its own individual flavors and nutrition.

The Double-Boiled Black Chicken with Ginseng Soup is well flavored with whole pieces of ginseng root. I can taste the soft hints of bitterness from the ginseng roots in the soup. Coupled with the black chicken essence, the soup has a soothing savory note. Ginseng has medicinal benefits that is said to nourish the lungs, improves blood circulation and rejuvenate the body.

Our next soup of Double-Boiled Water Goby with Fresh Apple Soup is my favorite. Said to re-energizes the mind and nourish the lungs, the soup has a lovely sweetness from the fresh apples and the water goby. There is a thick big piece of water goby in the soup among other ingredients like chicken feet and the soft apples. All these can also be enjoyed but the broth alone is perfect enough for me.

When Stewed Pork Belly served with Lotus Bun was placed in front of me, I could only sigh with happiness. To me, this dish is the epitome of my porky dreams. A thick piece of 3-layers of pork belly has been braised for hours till the sauce is thick and sticky. Soft and oozing with a richness of sweet caramelized flavor, the pork belly is really sinful and beautiful. As the pork belly is already so rich in flavors, the soft lotus bun is the perfect to offset the pork together with a crisp lettuce. Seriously, I could definitely enjoy at least two of these….

Paradise Inn serves their prawns shelled, making it easy for diners to enjoy these crustaceans. The delectable prawn balls are then coated in various sauces. We had their Crisp-Fried Crystal Prawns in Wasabi Mayo Sauce and Crisp-Fried Crystal Prawns with Salted Egg Yolk. I have had this before on several occasions and I must say, the flavors are just as consistent as before. The prawns are sweet and fresh with a firm bite. Both sauces are just as good as before, one laced with an umami savory note while the other has a creamy sweet flavor with a soft note of wasabi.

I was told that the shrimp paste in the Crisp-Fried Shrimp Paste Chicken was sourced out of Malaysia. The chicken is very well seasoned and has a pungent savory flavor. Crispy and juicy, the chicken wings are quite addictive.

We also enjoyed Poached Chinese Spinach with Egg Trio & Minced Pork in Superior Soup. The dish has a home-style appeal and is light and easy to enjoy. Soft spinach is cooked with bits of egg, salted egg and century egg with minced pork. It’s a great dish when one is craving for something light and warming to go with rice.

To go with all our dishes, we had Fried Rice with Chinese Sausage & Mushrooms and Crispy Supreme Seafood Fried Rice. Both fried rice are quite different in flavors. The Fried Rice with Chinese Sausage & Mushrooms has a sweeter flavor due to the cubes of Chinese sausage while the Crispy Supreme Seafood Fried Rice has a light and eggy flavor. The latter one also has a crispy texture due to the addition of the crispy rice bits on top and has bits of seafood. Both fried rice has fluffy rice grains.

Braised Vermicelli with Pork Trotters is simply a must-order at Paradise Inn. Big chunks of pork trotter are braised till fairly soft and have a gelatinous texture with its fatty skin and dark meat. These are then cooked with thin rice noodles in the savory soy sauce till fragrant and the flavors have permeated the noodles. The rice noodles still retained a lovely medium texture, which shows off how well controlled this dish is by the chef. Though the pork trotter is a little too fatty for me, I still really enjoyed the rice noodles.

Paradise Inn’s Fried Hokkien Mee is also another must-order dish. Well braised in the dark soy sauce, the thick yellow noodles are also infused with bits of crispy lard oil, adding another layer of deliciousness. The noodles have prawns, pork slices and vegetables braised with it. Although this is always enjoyed with chili, I felt the dish is already so good on its own.

Eating at Paradise Inn brings back warm memories of classic Chinese comfort food. The restaurant serves up many home-style dishes cooked with fine flavors. The soups are simply a must while the dishes are sure to remind one of flavors from the past.
