Paradise Inn, Sunway Pyramid: Refining the Menu with New Individual Set Meals!

Something New, Something Old!

It’s been a while since I last visited Paradise Inn Restaurant at Sunway Pyramid. Renowned for its concept of integrating the best of a restaurant, teahouse and dessert house all under one roof, Paradise Inn offers a sumptuous menu laden with loads of comfort Chinese classic dishes. Famed for their specialty of nutritious double-boiled soups, it is a restaurant much sought after for a journey down childhood flavors with warmth and healthy benefits.

A recent invitation to preview their new individual set meals led us back to the beautifully designed restaurant. It is just as it was, pleasantly spacious and filled with soft huge yellow glowing lamps that exude warmness throughout the restaurant. Choose from booths, regular dining or private rooms to enjoy the classic dishes whipped up by the kitchen team.

Based from requests from guests, Paradise Inn has redefined their menu to incorporate new individual set meals to cater to those who dines individually or simply prefers to order their own choice of dishes. The concept is also suitable to the younger generation who loves to hang out with friends and enjoy a home style meal with various choices of dishes. Not only does one enjoy their own choice of dishes, every set meal comes with Paradise Inn’s signature double-boiled soup of the day together with a selection of vegetable and side dishes. The new individual set menu is an addition to their current menu filled with dishes meant for sharing.

Choices are plenty with a staggering list of over 20 dishes from rice to noodles in the new set individual menu! We sampled some New Individual Set Meals and some favorite classics that evening. The new set individual menu comprises of four selections of Hot Steaming Basket, Chargrilled, Mini Wok and Hot Stone Bowl.

Individual Mini Wok Set Meals

Stir-Fried Prawn Cutlets with Scrambled Egg in Tomato Sauce

The simplicity of the ingredients attribute to the memories of what our childhood taste like! Soft wobbly eggs cooked till just set with prawns snuggly wrapped and drowned with a lightly sweet and sour tomato sauce. Not sure about you but I practically ate a lot of this even till today!

Stir-Fried Udon with Black Pepper Sauce & Seafood

Slurp up fat udon noodles seasoned with a Malaysian favorite black peppery sauce. Accompanying the oodles of noodles are a nice choice of seafood while an egg yolk completes the dish to lust it up. Its not over peppery, allowing one to enjoy the natural flavors of everything in harmony.

Individual Hot Stone Bowl Set Meal

Stir-Fried Beef Slices with Spring Onion

The hot stone bowl carried out its purpose to keep the food hot and sizzling while one enjoys it. Beef lovers would seek solace in this dish of thinly sliced beef infused with soft sweet and pungent spring onions. The beef is just succulent and tender with every bite, making every grains of rice utterly satisfying.

Taiwanese Style Stewed Chicken in Supreme Soy Sauce

A much enjoyed classic, this version of ‘Sam Pui Kai’ as it is better known, will have your senses sing in glee. Beautifully glazed and braised, the caramelized flavor of the soy sauce is deeply rich and sweet. Chili and basil leaves perfumed the dish with its unique aroma. Using only a certain part of the chicken to achieve its texture, one will be sure to suck out every bit of its luscious sauce.

Individual Chargrilled Set Meal

Crispy Fermented Pork Ribs

It has the distinctive taste and aroma of a Chinese favorite of fermented bean curd. Well marinated, the ribs are fried till beautifully colored and crispy. Sliced up and served on an old fashion grill, the heat below helps to keep the meat nicely warm and crispy for slow savoring.

Seafood with Spicy Homemade Sauce

Spicy and sour, this Asam style sauce will perk up your appetite! Brimming with prawns and squid with soft eggplant slices and onions, it is also kept bubbling hot under the grill stove. Redolent of spices, one can taste the concoction of tangy tamarind flavors and the various spice notes in the sauce. Drenching the rice with this sauce is the sane thing to do!

Individual Hot Steaming Basket Set Meal

Steamed Minced Pork Patty with Salted Fish

My favorite of the lot that night! Pork is minced till the texture is bouncy, then season and steamed with the unctuous fried salted fish. Flavors are a haven of salty goodness, instantly jolting one’s senses for more. It’s really an all-time-favorite that goes so well with steamed rice. I can literally polish off this whole patty easily. And so we had to order an a la carte order of this…

Steamed Chicken Fillet with Mushroom & Black Fungus

The delicate notes of steamed chicken fillet would win with most elders. It is easy to enjoy as the tender pieces of chicken partners very well with the textures of the mushrooms and black fungus. If you need this kick up another notch, there is a side of super spicy homemade Thai chili sauce to hit the heat!

With any order of Individual set meal ordered, one can add on RM5++  per pax of Premium Oolong Tea & Dessert of the Day.

Ala Carte Orders

Stewed Pork Belly with Lotus Bun

Ever since I had this here the last time, I know a repeat of this would certainly make my day! The combination works beautifully and flavors are very consistent from the last round. The thick soft cut of pork belly still melts-in-the-mouth while the sweet savory caramelized sauce soaked into the lotus bun for extra pleasures. Psst… there is currently a tea time promotion on weekdays for this gorgeous bun and belly!

Crisp Fried Crystal Prawns in Wasabi Mayo Sauce

The balls of crustaceans are nicely fried to a crispy texture and dressed in a creamy apple green wasabi mayo sauce. The dose of wasabi is enough to clear your senses for a few seconds. It’s creamy and dreamy prawns are also lightly sprinkled with tiny fish roes to add extra popping texture.

Supreme Seafood Fried Rice

The difference of this fried rice is the addition of the tiny flying fish roes, adding a popping texture with every spoonful of rice. The version here has grainy rice tinted golden and loaded up with nice cubes of seafood.

Desserts

Double Boiled Hasma with Red Dates and Dried Longan

The meal would not be complete without desserts!  We had quite a few that night. Treat yourself to a much prized Double-Boiled Hasma with Red Dates and Dried Longan to soothe and replenish vital essence in the lungs and to improve one’s skin complexion. Very lightly sweetened, this one is a popular choice especially with females.

Mango Sago, Water Chestnut & Sweet Corn Sago, Sweet Almond Paste, Black Sesame Paste, Chilled Lemongrass Jelly with Lemonade, Ah Balling with Red Bean Sago

Desserts are generally good here and choosing one would be a little difficult. There are warm sweet desserts and chilled sweet desserts. Out of the above I tried, I honestly like each one for its own flavors. The Mango Sago had a luscious rich creaminess with a ripe mango flavor while the light Water Chestnut & Sweet Corn Sago has a natural sweetness in taste. Most that night raved about the thick jet black Black Sesame Paste and its glorious nutty aroma. Sweet Almond Paste wasn’t too strong for me and the Chilled Lemongrass Jelly is refreshing and tangy. Ah Balling with Red Bean Sago was very enjoyable although I am not a fan of red bean but I find the two mocha dumplings really soft and delicious.

Flower Teas

We had flower tea to end the meal and cleanse out palate. Its really a nice touch serving these in transparent teapot so one can admire the pretty colors of the flower tea.

Lavender, Rosemary, Dried Longan & Chrysanthemum

The New Individual Set Meal menu may be priced a little more but for the quality of the doubled-boiled soup to the much thought off side dishes in addition to the main dish certainly makes this truly worthy. The doubled boiled soup changes on daily basis and it is the very same signatures on the current menu. We were even told that their soy sauce is also imported from Hong Kong for its quality control.

Let’s not forget the lovely ambience of Paradise Inn Restaurant where one can dine with comfort and pleasure. If you love variety and quality, it’s a great menu to check out, especially when you have small numbers of people dining but you love variety!
