A Celebration of Good over Evil and Light over Darkness, Deepavali is just Around the Corner!
A time to be with family and friends, Deepavali is the celebration of the Festival of Lights. During this auspicious day, the homes of the Indian community are adorned with everything bright and colorful. Although much celebrated elsewhere as well, Malaysia practices lots of open houses during this festival and the Hindu Malaysians would invite their family and friends to enjoy a sumptuous meal in their homes.
In conjunction with the Festival of Lights celebration, Swez Brasserie at Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya has spiced up its menu with authentic curries and lip-smacking Indian cuisine from 1st to 18th November. Head over to Swez Brasserie for a sumptuous feast of authentic dishes such as Tandoori, Kebabs, Palak Paneer, Prawn Masala, Mutton Chukka and more.
Headed by Eastin’s Senior Sous Chef, Chef Sam Abraham, the Flavors of India buffet is a food lover’s paradise. Chef Sam, who has over 20 years’ experience in the culinary industry, has been preparing various local and international cuisines in many renowned associations and International 5-star hotels. With a passion for cooking since young, Chef Sam’s secret to finger-licking-good curries and ‘perattals’ are fresh ingredients and authentic spices, the crucial essentials to an authentic Indian meal.
Check out a glimpse of what is in store at Swez Brasserie! Flavors of India buffet dinner will feature 4 menu choices on rotation basis. There will always be something for everyone, even the fussiest foodies…
Mutton Varuval is all about the balance of spices! A dry curry that is piquant and spicy, the flavors should be a firework in one’s mouth. Chef Sam’s version is wonderfully delicious with a strong presence of a medley of spices. It’s also spicy and robust while the mutton pieces are cooked till tender.
I am such a huge fan of Butter Chicken or Murgh Mukhani! Sometimes confused with a similar dish of Chicken Tikka Marsala, this dish has a very subtle spice flavor but is rich in a creamy buttery way. What I thoroughly enjoy at this version was its familiar flavors of subtlety. Delicate mellow spice flavors are combined with a good aroma of tomato and a creamy ingredient while tender boneless thighs rendered a good meaty flavor. This curry is also suitable for foodies who cannot take spicy heat as the heat is gentle and almost non-existence. Hand over the Naans please…
I simply lashed the curry over my rice in glee!
Another refine dish of Fish Kulapur showcased pieces of sweet white fish in a creamy golden curry. The nuances of the flavors are light, creamy, peppery but not too spicy. It has gentleness to the overall taste with bits of onions, chili and herb bits in textures.
Prawn Methi Masala was a crowd favorite! Prawns cooked in a richly spice laden sauce perfumed with herbs make a perfect dish with steamed rice or even bread. A hint of tangy flavor is noted making it easy to balance out the richness of the spices.
Broccoli Paneer Sauce is a first for me. I never even heard of this before but I like it a lot. The broccoli was cooked nicely and the slightly creamy cheese sauce was not heavy or too rich. In fact, the vegetable flavors are delicate, making it a great dish after one has had all the luscious spread of curries and spices.
Rice is a must and besides Jeera Pulao there will be other choices of rice on a rotation basis.
Indian cuisine is always perked up further by bits of condiments like fried dry chilies, bittergourd, beans, fritters and more. Make sure to check this out for that extra flavor while enjoying your rice!
Wash all that lovely meal with a creamy Honey Dew Lassi! Although I love the mango version very much, this one is fresh and sweet, lending a wonderful melon aroma to the drink.
The Indian food scene will not be complete if the ‘Savory Hero’ does not unite with the ‘Sweet Heroine’. Bodacious in colors and sweet in flavors, one can appease their sweet tooth with Kesari, Palkova, Jeleby, Halwa, Gulab Jammun, Payasam and more. What an utterly sweet ending!
