Crab Factory Introduces New Cheese and Salted Egg Sauce

Crabbing Just Got Better with New Value Sets!

Seafood lovers are in for a treat… The pioneer in bringing us seafood with Southern Creole flavours as well as some local flavours, Crab Factory’s concept of dining straight on the table with large seafood boils poured on the table is all about diners getting dirty deliciousness. With minimal utensils, it’s all about savoring glorious seafood with finger-licking yumminess.

With a new menu on board, Crab Factory owner T.Y Ooi is not only making seafood affordable but introducing new lip-smacking Cheese and Salted Egg sauces, Crab Factory Value Meal sets and BBQ seafood as well as lunch specials.

It’s all about the Cheese! Hot cheesy and creamy, it’s irresistibly yummy. Pour the Cheese Sauce over Crab Factory’s signature sauces and simply enjoy the creamy cheesy indulgence on your seafood for extra shioknness….

We all love our salted egg dishes but this one is extra special. Crab Factory’s Salted Egg Sauce is more spiced up with a lusciousness of punchy flavours. The Salted Egg sauce goes really well with all seafood, elevating the sweetness with moreish spices. It is finished with aromatics and crunchy bits. Simply addictive, foodies are sure to be hook on sheer sublime flavours of this sauce!

Making seafood affordable, Crab Factory has come up with new sets of seafood boils with its new sauces in tow. Crab Factory Value Meals offers 3 choices – Crab Lover Shiok, Crab Lover Party and Crab Lover Giler to cater to different groups of diner. These sets feed from 2 pax to 9 pax (est. RM49.90 to RM59.90 per pax) with upgrade options on various types of crabs.

Crab Lover Party (4 to 5 pax) with additions of 2 cheese sauce (RM299.50 set + RM13.80 – 2 x cheese sauce)

First up, we had the Crab Lover Party with Southern Bang Sauce (Medium Hot) with add-ons of 2 portion of cheese sauce. Getting down right dirty and delicious, this set has Meat Crab (2pcs XL), King White Prawns, Squid, Mini Lobsters, Hamaguri Clams Freshwater Prawns, Mussels, Corn and Potatoes. It also comes with 2 Fried Mantao and 4 Shallot Rice to go with all that yummy sauce.

For those who never tried Crab Factory Creole sauce, this Southern Bang has a robust tangy kick of heat and moreish notes. We only opted for medium hot but hey, be my guest and ask for their hottest level if you are game for heat. The best part of this has yet to come. Now one can order a portion of oozing hot Cheese sauce, which we did, and add this on to the bag of Louisiana seafood boil.

*Cheese sauce is free of charge from now till 31 October 2017

That Cheese sauce… it’s literally da bomb! Creamy and cheesy, the cheese sauce paired so well with the Southern Bang sauce. As we watch the cheese sauce being poured over the seafood, our mouths were literally salivated as the combination is utterly irresistible with the seafood and sauces.

Succulent and sweet seafood, drenched in unbelievably creamy and spicy sauces, will make you want to keep eating. Mopping up all the saucy goodness with the Fried Mantou makes this even better. Just in case you need your rice, the Shallot Rice is also yummy on its own or with the sauces!

Crab Lover Giler (7 to 9 pax) featuring 2 sauces (RM539.10 set + upgrade Brown Crab RM40)

If you’re dining in a big group of 7 to 9 pax, the Crab Lover Giler is the perfect Crab Factory Happy Meal featuring 2 bags of Louisiana boils of seafood in 2 sauces of your choice. We even upgraded one of the Louisiana boil bag with French Brown Crab (charges applies) instead of the Meat Crab.

This Crab Lover Giler set is value-for-money as it also comes with 1 Fried Chicken Wings, 1 Fried Mantou, 1 Fried Squid Tentacles and 7 to 9 Shallot Rice.

First Louisiana boil bag of Gang Giler #1 was upgraded with French Brown Crab in Garlic Butter Sauce. This one has Brown Crab, King White Prawns, Squid, Mussels, Hamaguri Clams, Corn and Broccoli. Garlic Butter has always been a crowd pleaser at Crab Factory. Diners can expect loads of buttery garlicky flavours in the lot of the seafood. It’s a sauce that pleases most palates as it enhances the sweetness of the seafood.

Check out that rich roe in the Brown Crab!

Our second Louisiana boil bag of Gang Giler #2 in Southern Bang Sauce (Medium Hot) also has lots of seafood such as Meat Crab (2 pcs XL), Mini Lobsters, Freshwater Prawns, Jumbo Sweet Prawns and Corn. This one is an explosion of firework flavours in the mouth and had us at Hello!

King Crab (1 pc XXL) with Salted Egg Sauce (RM298)

Talk about a Malaysian classic, Crab Factory is introducing its own version of Salted Egg Sauce. We had the ala carte King Crab with Salted Egg Sauce. This order even comes with corn, potato and fried mantou.

Crab Factory’s version of Salted Egg Sauce has more oomph of spices to deepen the salted egg note. Lusciously creamy and spicy, the salted egg sauce proved to be a matched for the sweet flesh of the King Crab as well as the other bag buddies. We also enjoyed mopping up this sauce with the mantou.

Besides King Crab, there’s Red Lobster, Crab, French Brown Crab and all the other seafood that is available for ala carte order in your choice of sauce.

Also new on the menu list, Crab Factory is introducing lunch specials of Noodles/Rice from SIXTH Bowl. Ordering is easy, pick a noodle, then select the toppings and the broth. There’s also rice bowls too.

The Mix Balls (RM13.5) with Mi Xian in Superior Soup was tasty and it even comes with Char Kuey or Yu Tiao. There’s a generous mix of Fuzhou, Squid Ink & Fish Balls that is bouncy and delicious. The broth is full of umami notes and the added Char Kuey gave this noodle extra yum.

We also tried the Freshwater Prawns (RM16.90 + 0.50 for spicy sauce) with Mi Lidi in Special Spicy Broth. It’s not overly spicy but rather enough heat to awaken your palate for more. This bowl is really decently priced for the 2 large Freshwater prawns that is sweet and full of luscious roe.

Crab Factory is also giving back to the community with its Bowl-IT-Forward program. Diners get One Free Bouncy Balls Bowl for every 6 bowls purchased when dine-in at Crab Factory. Customer can either choose to enjoy the Free bowl or donate it to Charity. Crab Factory will visit selected children’s or old folks’ homes every 2 months to cook for them with your Free bowl.

All the above are available at Crab Factory SS2 and Crab Factory Johor Bahru outlets.

The next new menu of Bara BBQ is only available at Crab Factory Johor Bahru for now. Diners can enjoy a long list of BBQ seafood as well as other specials at the new JB outlet.

There’s BBQ Crab (RM39 per crab) with choice of Cajun or Garlic. Charred to give the crab a smoky flavour with intensified sweetness of the crab, this one is excellent for those who enjoys the natural sweetness of the crustacean.

Love oysters but prefer them lightly cooked? Feast your eyes on Crab Factory’s 12 BBQ Oysters (RM69) that comes with 12 different sauces. Best to enjoy them piping hot, we are reminded again how creative Crab Factory gets with all its different sauces. Hard to choose a favorite since these aphrodisiacs have different flavours that goes well with the briny plump oysters.

Another dish worth sharing is the Best of Both Worlds (RM56.80) platter. Featuring Crab Factory’s Signature Coke BBQ Lamb Chop, Fried Freshwater Prawns and BBQ King White Prawns with sautéed vegetable and French fries, this one is unusual twist to the all-time-favorite surf & turf. The lamb chops were tender, juicy and moreish with a light tinge of sweetness and smoky aroma.

An unusual addition on the menu is the Sotong Sumbat Coconut (RM33). A dish with a local flavour, the squid is generously stuffed with a lovely coconut filling, chargrilled till tender and served with a sweet and spicy sauce on the side.

The Fried Quails (RM22.80) warrants a reorder in my books. Well-marinated and fried till nicely lacquered, it comes on a bed of crispy rice noodles, topped with sautéed aromatics and a tangy chili sauce. This one makes a nice addition to the plethora of seafood.

Corn Croquette (RM11.80) may not be spectacular but it’s decent and great for corn lovers. The kiddies are bound to enjoy this crispy and creamy croquette well-studded with sweet corn kernels.

Last but not least, Crab Factory JB also has some lunch specials. We tried their version of Hainanese Fried Chicken Chop (RM15.50). Crispy fried chicken thigh drenched in brown sauce and served with crispy potato wedges and sautéed vegetable makes a decent meal. This lunch special (up to 3pm) also comes with Ice Lemon Tea & a scoop of Ice Cream.

Crab Factory has just open its sister outlet in Little Paris at Mount Austin Johor Bahru in August. About time too since foodies down South can now savor seafood Crab Factory style! We spent a short weekend getaway recently for some food hunting in the South and paid a visit to Crab Factory JB.

It is quite easy to located Crab Factory JB since it’s facing the main road in that area. There’s plenty of parking too. The new outlet echoes its original outlet, industrial theme with bright shades of orange enriching the whole ambiance. Diners are also asked to express their creativeness on the wall with markers provided.

With two new fabulous sauces in tow and new menu on board, it looks like Crab Factory is gearing up for some serious seafood bingeing for foodies. With new affordable Value Meal sets as well as lunch specials and let’s not forget a new sister outlet in JB, Crab Factory is taking seafood to new heights!

Professor Uniforms @ SS2, Petaling Jaya

The Uniform Expert

People say that quality of things has changed over the years and they don’t make things that last longer like yesteryears. True in some ways but there still certain companies that do make quality things for a longer use. Taking clothes as a sample, the quality of the materials used to make clothes are indeed different. Thanks to science and technology, raw material used have also evolve and though this is said to allow clothing quality to be better, there are still some companies who tries to getaway on the cost and produce clothing that don’t last as well as they should.

How time flies and my little one is already 7 years old. As a mom, the task of my little one and his daily school routine lies with me. I can’t believe how this year has passed and he is already going to be in Standard Two in less than 2 months. To share with you my little one’s first few weeks at school, I was astonished on how my rascal can really wear down his school uniform and school shoes, not to mention other things like his school bag and stationary.

When I was in school, my school uniform lasted me quite a few year until I outgrew the size and my shoes were also tidy and white most of the time. We never get to change school bags and were expected to make our bags last as long as we could still carry our books in them. Today, it’s different. I realize that I had to buy new sets of uniform and shoes again for my boy. Though he can still wear his uniform, I notice that the shirt had turn slightly yellow and the material looked worn and washed out. The shoes, though it was a new pair bought few months ago, looked dreadful as the base had worn out and there was even a tiny hole in one of the shoe. Gosh, either they don’t make things as well as they do or my boy is indeed too active in his daily way to wear out his uniform and shoes so fast!

Talking to some of my friends who are also parents, they said they also share the same issues like me and advise me to buy better quality uniforms and shoes so they can actually last longer for my boy. Then I found out about Professor Uniforms. Established since 1982, Professor Uniforms has been producing quality uniforms for few decades in this city for a while. Over the years, Professor has branched out to 12 outlets in Klang Valley, supplying students with most comprehensive range of school and extra curriculum activities uniform and accessories.

I took my little one to their SS2 outlet one weekend morning a few weeks ago to get him some school uniforms in preparation for the next year school. Not too hard to locate, the Professor outlet is located right across McDonalds in SS2 bustling square, just right above Crab Factory. The store is well space and filled with more items that I expected.

Professor carries a wide range of uniforms from school uniforms to scouts uniforms, sportswear and even extra clothing items like pajamas and more. Besides uniforms, they also carry a wide selection of school bags, outdoor activity bags, camping equipment and accessories, binoculars, army knives, hats, ties, badges and so much more.

A very nice staff helped me since I looked pretty lost amidst all the uniforms. I was told that Professor has their own team in producing the uniforms they carry and for the school uniforms, they offer two labels. Professor Red Label is their signature label, offering quality uniforms that comes in extra-large sizes as well. Professor Green Label caters to the demands of cheaper uniforms without compromising on the workmanship.

I opted for the Professor Red Label, noticing that the material is indeed thicker with a softer feel of the material. One can also see how the material differs from the other label as it has a better outlook. When a child needs to wear this for 8 hours a day, it’s important to me that my son has a better quality uniform. The collar of the red label is also made with a sturdy support, allowing the shirt to look more presentable and neat.

The navy blue shorts also has really nice quality material and a thicker feel. The staff showed me that Professor introduced the ‘zipped’ pocket in their uniforms since they know how kids tend to not be as careful when it comes to money. What a great idea because my son has also lost some money too earlier this year because it fell out of his pocket at school. With this zip, he will be able to keep his money safe till he needs to use it.

Since the quality of the uniforms are so durable, the staff was so kind to even advise me to get a size bigger for my son as the uniforms will last well even through daily washing.

I am amazed on how my little one has turn into a little man in his uniform!

p/s: I really like the stand up collar on his shirt because it makes him look smart and neat…

From now one, it’s going to be Professor Uniform for my little one. Don’t take my word on this, check out the nearest Professor Uniforms yourself to experience the durable quality uniforms they offer. A label that has withstand the test of time, they definitely are doing something right because their testament comes from many of my friends who are moms themselves.

Smoking Hog @ SS2, Petaling Jaya

It’s A Swine Affair!

If you are a porcine fan, I guarantee that you will be swooning at Smoking Hog! Full blast porcine glory in its most unadulterated swine laden menu, it is a restaurant that caters to foodies like me who cannot resist porky dishes. Located in the bustling square area of SS2, Petaling Jaya, this restaurant is discreetly located on the first floor of Crab Factory. The entrance is rather discreet as one enters by the side of the building of the Crab Factory restaurant. There is no signage but a little hanging piglet gives it away. It’s rather an exciting and secretive moment as one heads into the entrance to Smoking Hog. Sharing the same owner as Crab Factory, T.Y. and team goes all out in pleasing porcine fans with its creative and rumbustious menu.

Upon entrance of the restaurant, one is immediately transported to a world of dark and mysterious space filled with a mix of stylish yet quirky ambiance. Flanked on both sides by the open kitchen and the bar, one walked past into the dining area. By the bar, a stairway, lined by a wall filled with artistic impressionist’s paintings with much quirkiness of animal head on human body, lead diners up to another level of dining, a more private one with an open balcony. Though it was dark, I could see a large and serious looking smoking machine where Smoking Hog has all their bacon smoked. Yes, they do take their hog seriously. The team tries to make magic in their own kitchen, going all out in curing, smoking and turning pork to various heavenly pieces of porcine pleasures.

We knew it was going to be an epic night of porky fare the moment we saw the menu. Choices are decent with enough dishes to tempt me from ordering one of every dish. Nevertheless, we tried not too but opted for the signatures of Smoking Hog.

Dinner commenced with Japanese sake and Umeshu of Kirei Umeshu with Collagen (RM65/bottle) and Yamadanishiki Special Junmai (RM65/bottle). Both served chilled in special glassware that allows the ice kept in separate compartments to chill the alcohol without diluting it. Absolutely love the Kirei Umeshu for its rich sweet plum wine notes while the Yamadanishiki Special Junmai had a full body boldness and smooth note of the King of Sake rice – Yamadanishiki rice.

First up was Egg Bomb (RM15). Looking every inch its namesake, the Egg Bomb is gracefully plonked on a vegetable ring surrounded by a creamy sauce speckled by black sesame seeds. The bomb proved to be an explosion of perfectly poached egg with a molten egg yolk center enveloped in creamy mashed coated in a crispy fried panko crumb. It’s pure comfort food between the egg and the mashed with a nice element of seaweed and cream sauce.

I simply cannot get enough of the Bacon-Wrapped Takoyaki & Kimchi Baby Octopus Salad (RM34). Octopus takoyaki balls are wrapped with bacon and piled on with piquant kimchi, seaweed and served on a bed of greens. It’s a plate of bombastic flavours. Super yum in flavours and textures. I don’t know how consoling it is to call this a salad but hey, I am certainly feeling less guilty about devouring this… Must order!!

It’s practically on every table I see that evening. Smoking Hog’s Signature Bacones (RM32) is alike a breakfast dream come true for me in every sense. Bacon cones filled with scramble egg, mashed and baked beans proves that bacon can turn an ordinary dish into something extraordinary. The bacon cone is simply crispy and super yum in every possible flavour sense. May be a bit messy to eat this but hey, anything with bacon is worth it. Kudos to the team at Smoking Hog for this creative dish…

Caesar Salad (RM23) is not spared the porcine touch and comes laden with bacon, poached egg, crispy anchovies and all the other trimmings of the salad. Extra points for the perfectly poached egg with oozing egg yolk.

The pastas are Smoking Hog is super scrumptious! We had three pastas and all three scored points for flavours and textures.

Pig’s Tongue & Bacon Matriciana (RM31) would be a first for me. I didn’t think I would enjoy pig’s tongue but I did. It’s tender and provided a good bite to the dish. Of course, there’s plenty of crispy bacon to make this pasta even better. The sauce is intensely tomatoey and spicy too which gave the dish an overall solid A+ for flavours.

Double Smoked Duck Carbonara Fettuccine (RM39) was set with a glass cloche and came hidden in the midst of smoke. Though I didn’t managed to capture the smoke effect, I must concur that the carbonara was deliciously rich and wonderful. Another dish with perfectly poached egg, lots of cubed smoked duck and mushrooms with luscious cream sauce, the pasta also had a tinge of smoky note. One word of advice, scoff this down while it’s hot for the full effect of the luscious egg yolk coating the strands of the silky fettuccine pasta. May be compellingly rich but its pure comfort for the soul…

I am pretty sure that the Spicy Lemongrass & Seafood Tagliatelle (RM41) is the only seafood dish in the menu. Nevertheless, it still scored with us as the pasta has a lovely Asian lemongrass twist on the usual tomato sauce. It has a savory, spicy and lemony note and comes with generous portions of prawn, clam and octopus as well as fish.

More tongue and this time, it is was in the Grilled Pig’s Tongue Burger (RM25). A super thick and juicy pork patty played host to the slices of tender pig tongue. Finished with sliced onions, pickles, cucumber, tomato and lettuce with sesame seed bun, it’s a mega burger to be reckoned with.

CW’s Berries ‘Ku Ru Yok’ (RM39) is a luscious and fruity take on the classic Chinese sweet and sour pork thought it reminds me more of the ‘Kau yuk with Mantao’. Slices of tender pork belly braised in a sweet and unctuous berry sauce served with warm mantao, sautéed beansprouts and mushrooms, raw onion slices and cucumber. What I really enjoy was the pork belly with the pieces of soft sweet cherries and strawberries. Never knew pork and berries go so well despite it being very fruity and sweet. A clever Western take on our Chinese dish!

Smoking Hog does go out of the ordinary when it comes to their menu and the next one is a take on the Korean rice cake where it goes into the Baked Rice Cake Lasagna (RM25). It’s quite a good one because I enjoyed the light and chewy rice cake in this lasagna. Layers of tomatoey and cheesy yumminess…

Dessert time but it’s more of a sweet and savory dessert list than the usual sweet one. Think salty and sweet bacon in every dessert!

First up, Dutch Babies with Honey Candied Bacon & Tomato Salsa (RM25). Well, there’s also sweet Dutch Babies but I happen to be a fan of sweet and savory one and so I adored the fluffly Dutch Baby pancakes with crispy edges and fluffy middle paired with honey candied bacon and tangy tomato salsa. Drizzle maple syrup over these babies and you’ll get a heavenly pairing that is across between breakfast and dessert rolled into one. There’s plenty of other variations to go with the baked Dutch Babies like Caramelized Banana Fritter & Ice Cream or Nutella, Crumbed Cookies & Ice Cream for the sweet tooth.

French Toast (RM30) sounded simple but it’s not. This one is jazzed up with whisky!! Talk about a happy ending… thick slices of bread is dipped in egg and crumbed with lots of nuts has whisky caramelized banana and honey candied bacon all rolled into one mega French toast sandwich. Served with Vanilla ice cream and maple syrup, it obviously cannot get any more heavenly than this … have this for dessert or even brunch, whichever rocks your boat, it will be heavenly.

I like how the Smoking Hog team thinks. Starting and ending with bacon makes perfect sense to me, an ardent hog fan. And so when I saw Bacon & Egg Ice Cream (RM24) on their menu, I knew I had to have this. If I am going to crash my whole week’s cholesterol in one meal, I might as well go all out and finish with a big bang. That said, a fabulous Bacon & Egg Ice Cream with plenty bacon in each spoonful. Damn, this is just so damn fabulous!

What an epic meal of pork and bacon! Gather up your family and friends for a treat at Smoking Hog. Dishes there are creative and cleverly concocted to please many porky fans. The team literally makes everything from scratch downright to smoking their own bacon. And that’s a plus sign how passionate the team behind Smoking Hog is…
