Meatology by Chef Yenni @ TTDI

Sumptuous Festive and New Menu

Behind every successful restaurant is an amazing chef… and behind Meatology is Chef Yenni Law. Chef Yenni has so much passion and energy in what she does, and it certainly shows in Meatology. The talented chef that wears multiple hats has two published cookbooks – Meatology and The Rice Pot under her name and the latter one has earned 1st place for the best in the prestigious and internationally recognized Gourmand Award in May 2018 held at Yantai, China.

Meatology has already carved a name in the neighborhood for scrumptious porky fare. Chef Yenni offers classic favorites with her own twist. She goes all out to roast her own Roast Pork and offers tableside entertainment of flambéing steaks to desserts. Locals know where to head to for comfort food and she greets all her diners like they were her old friends.

There’s just no rest with Chef Yenni and her culinary team. With much festivity around the corner, Chef Yenni has prepared festive dishes along with Roast Turkey for orders. In addition, diners can check out the contemporary Western Meatology’s new menu filled with her signatures as well as new dishes with local twists.

For turkey lovers, Meatology offers Roast Turkey (RM58.80++) in smaller portion so one can still enjoy the Christmas dish without having to have a big party. The platter offer cuts of dark and white meat of the turkey, perfectly roasted with a lovely tasty note and moistness. The Roast Turkey is accompanied by grape, chestnut & bacon stuffing, giblet gravy and a spiked cranberry & rum sauce.

For those who are planning a festive party or dine-in group, go for the Whole Roast Turkey (RM428++) with the trimmings. There are additional perks such as a free dining voucher worth RM130 and a half yard glass that comes with this order. This one requires a 3-day advance notice for an order.

For appetizers, diners can tuck into a tasty Grilled Cincaluk Pork (RM23.80). Marrying the flavours of local cincalok or prawn paste with pork belly, the result is this unctuous and addictive sliced pork belly with a unique smoky aroma. And if it ain’t enough, she considerately serves this with some chopped chili padi for extra kicks!

They say one eats with their eyes first… the Tempeh & Chickpea (RM13.80) is cleverly served on a bright blue plate, making it even more enticing with the vibrant colors. Perfect as meatless option, batons of nutty tempeh is sauced up with a lightly sweet and savory sauce. Served on a bed of chickpeas and peas, its healthy and tasty too.

Chef Yenni has a good sense of pairing unsual ingredients and she puts some humor in coining Ladies Lap Cheong (RM13.80). Lady fingers are pairing with sliced Chinese lap Cheong and lots of fried garlic crisp with a bit of heat from chili flakes. The dish turned out well, as the sweetish lap Cheong elevated the lady fingers well. This is one dish I would order again.

Banking on the typical English Sunday roast, Chef Yenni serves up Roast Pork (RM38.80) on Sundays at Meatology. A platter of nicely cut chunks of golden and crunchy crackling roast pork can surely make all Sundays even better, at least for me. And if you are even thinking of feeling a bit guilty, the roast pork is balanced by the side of greens for extra comfort.

More appetizers followed and the Mentaiko Gratinade Baby Lobster (RM23.80++) is an absolute stunner. Mentaiko or fish roe has such a moreish flavour profile that it pairs well with seafood to bring out the oceanic flavours. The baby lobster is cooked beautifully while the gratin makes the lobster even more delectable.

Moving on to mains, the Seared Grouper with Caper Lime Butter (RM48.80) is perfect for fish lovers. Thick fillet of grouper cooked well and served with the citrusy butter sauce. The capers and chopped preserved vegetable enhanced the fish really well, lending a umami saltish note. Presentation is excellent as the dish is colorful and attractive as well.

If there is one dish to rave at Meatlogy, the Spicy Sour Cream Spiney Lobster with Chips (RM178.80) would be it. The brilliant pairing of thick cut fries to go with that luscious buttery and spiced up sauce is so sumptuous that we wanted more fries. The lobster is cooked well with a firm tenderness while the creamy sauce gave the dish that fragrant oomph that makes this dish so enticing. If you feel like splurging, this is the dish to order…

When the waitstaff flambé the octopus, it was apparent that this was going to be another good dish! Grilled Spanish Octopus Tentacle with Spiked Concasse & Garlic (RM43.70) is enticingly aromatic from the spiked flambe action and goes well with the rich cream sauce along with mushrooms on al dente fettuccine and finished with briny salmon roes. This dish is very rich so sharing this may be a good idea. I loved the octopus tentacle as it was tender and goes well with the slippery smooth pasta.

A beautifully poached egg nestled on a bed of mushroom and pasta with pea sprouts peeking upwards. The Truffle Spaghetti (RM35.80) is so good, one won’t miss the fact that this is meatless. The soft egg coated the pasta and mushroom strands, lending a smoothness of richness to the gorgeous aroma of truffles lingering with each bite.

Chef Yenni nailed the Grilled Grain-fed Aged Ribeye (RM35/100g) to a lovely medium doneness. Utterly juicy and well-charred, the ribeye is served with mashed potato, chick pea salad and side of horseradish. The steak, seasoned with only salt and pepper, has such yummy beefy flavours. A touch of horseradish added more depth of richness to the steak…

Lip smacking yum best describes the Chilli Lime Ribs (RM48.80)! Meaty ribs are heavily spiced up so that every bite of the meat is an explosion of spicy goodness in the mouth. Make sure to squeeze that wedge of lime on the ribs as it really perked up the flavours even more.

Chef Yenni surprised us all with Herbal Seafood Toddy (RM48.80). Coconut toddy laced with Chinese herbs made up the broth for rice noodles and plenty of seafood. The dish has a similar flavour profile with bak kut teh but it has lovely aroma of coconut. The subtle sweetness from the coconut toddy goes well with the fresh seafood and the noodles made this a complete meal on its own.

Life is always sweeter with desserts! And the fact that desserts can only get better is when its a Real Rum & Raisin Pie (RM18.80). Generously laced with run and studded with sweet raisins, this naughty ice cream pie is so yummy. This is one dessert that you may not want to share…

Forbidden Rice Brulèe (RM14.80) is unusual and tasty. French custard with chewy bits of black glutinous rice and a caramelized crunchy topping is Chef Yenni’s take on rice pudding. Love the chilled factor in this rice pudding as it freshened up the palate.

More flambé action and this time is a dessert of Yorkshire Pudding Flambé (RM32.80). Fluffy and crisp Yorkshire Pudding is jazzed up with a flambe of dark cherries and strawberries with booze. It is quite the perfect dramatic ending when dining at Meatology!

Christmas Omakase Menu 2018 @ Nobu Kuala Lumpur

A Distinctive Festive Celebration at Nobu Kuala Lumpur

Festive cheers are near, lending an excuse to celebrate, rejoice, wine and dine! To usher in more festive moods, Nobu Kuala Lumpur is offering a Special Omakase menu for the holidays. The Nobu name has always been a renowned name as one of the pioneers of combining Japanese with Peruvian cuisine in the gastronomy industry. In fact, Chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa’s culinaire forte is focusing on experimentation and fluid incorporation of diverse ingredients with three main key features of freshness, quality and simplicity.

Located in the city center, diners at Nobu will certainly enjoy the amazing view of the nation’s pride and joy of The Twin Towers. Whether one is dining in the main dining room or one of their private rooms, the ambiance offers sheer minimal simplicity with a Zen ambiance from the usage of natural elements of wood and light all through the restaurant.

From 22 to 25 December 2018, Executive Chef Philip Leong and the talented team at Nobu Kuala Lumpur has curated a 7-course Christmas Omakase Dinner, priced at RM590++ per person. Besides the Christmas Omakase Dinner, there is also a 5-course Christmas Lunch priced at RM250++ per person. For those ushering in 2019, there is also a New Year’s Eve Omakase, available from 29 December 2018 to 1 January 2019, priced at RM645++ per person. One will enjoy the New Year’s Eve countdown with traditional Japanese entertainment on 31 December in the perfect venue to catch fireworks and ring in the New Year at Nobu KL.

For the whole month of December, sip the festive flavours of Bloody Goose Cocktail. A naughty and nice play highlighting blood orange, vodka, tequila, lemon juice, egg white and vanilla, this potent cocktail may just leave one feeling va va voom for the rest of the day…

Salmon and Tuna on Lotus Chips are the perfect canape to go with the cocktail if I may say so…

Here’s a sneak peek from all the festive Omakase menu has to offer diners this Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Tuck into Sushi Bar Moriawase, a trio of Nobu signatures from Chef Leong. Not only is the dish pretty in presentation but each one tasted wonderfully delicious and unique.

The Toro Tartar with Black Caviar is simply not to be missed. A classic signature of Nobu, one can never get enough of this scrumptious minced tuna with special house sauce and lux caviar.

Japanese spring roll of Seafood Harumaki is just as delightful with crispy cigar rolls enveloping scallop and crab filling and topped with sweet onion salsa. This is one dish that will win the hearts of many.

Junsai Ponzu with Mango Miso reiterated the creativity force behind Chef Nobu. Using a distinctive Japanese delicacy of water shield or junsai, the dish offers a delicious gelatinous concoction of textural junsai paired with sublime sea urchin and a lightly fruity mango miso.

Never one to follow the norm, the chefs at all Nobu in the world is always pushing their limits and taking new journey of creating new techniques with various ingredients such as the Nobu Style Sushi Cup. Mini cups filled with sushi rice and topped with yellowtail, tuna, sea eel and salmon sashimi are served with tiny spoons. Each one is a joy to eat with its own flavours of oceanic pleasures.

Taco was the inspiration for Botan Ebi and Kampachi Endive Salad. Using greens as little taco holders for the medley of botan ebi and kampachi sashimi along with avocado, cucumber and tomato, this is one salad that may just turn non-salad eaters into one. Relatively light with a lovely citrusy fragrance, simply pick these up with your hands and enjoy the crunch of greens with the freshness of the seafood.

The palate cleanser of Passion Fruit Yuzu Sorbet has just the right balance of tang and sweetness to clear our palate for the next main courses to come.

The sheer simplicity at sight of Butter Poached Lobster on a pool of bright watercress soup reminded us again of how clever the team at Nobu is with highlighting premium ingredient with much finesse of flavours. Gorgeously poached buttery lobster goes well with the delicate watercress soup while caramelized baby figs added a touch of smoky sweetness to the dish.

If there is one dish literally to-die-for in my books, it would be the Wagyu with Wasabi Black Bean Glaze. While the wagyu, cooked perfectly, is already a prized on its own, it’s the audacious pairing of creamy and salty black bean with hints of wasabi that rocketed this dish to a spot on cloud nine haven of deliciousness. The black bean sauce was so full of umami notes that we made sure it was lapped up fully with slices of wagyu. Exceptional dish!

To clear up the palate after all the courses, the simple Cold Inaniwa Noodle with Braised Duck & Bamboo Shoot was much welcome. There’s something just utterly comforting about slurping slippery smooth noodles in a moreish broth. The duck slices were perfect teasers on the noodles.

This year, pastry Chef Jacky has outdone himself again with the prettiest dessert for this festive season. Simply called Snowman, the dessert was just too adorable. The ‘Snowman’ consisted of layers of green tea pannacotta, black sesame mousse and green tea sponge. Every layer was a match made-in-heaven as the layers complimented each other so well. An unforgettable dessert…

The Eiffel Tower @ The Parisian Macao

The Eiffel Tower has long been on my bucket list as one of the places to visit. Intrigue by the structure of the tower and all the stories that came with it, I have longed for the day to come when I would be able to visit the tower. Built in 1889, The Eiffel Tower was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution.

Upon planning my trip to Macao, I was delighted to find out that there is The Eiffel Tower at The Parisian Macao. The Eiffel Tower at Macao is an exact replica of the original on in Paris except that its half the actual size. Nevertheless, I was still pretty stoked that one of my bucket list can actually be coming true.

For those traveling to Macao, one can take the opportunity to grab the complimentary bus from the Macao ferry to The Parisian Macao. Since it was a day trip for us as we were visiting Hong Kong, we took the Cotai Waterjet Ferry to Macao Taipa Ferry Terminal. The ride was about an hour and those who has motion sickness is recommended to take some motion sickness meds just in case.

As mentioned in my earlier post from my amazing lunch at Le Buffet, we headed to The Eiffel Tower after lunch. One can opt for the promotion package to dine at one of the restaurants at The Parisian Macao and visit The Eiffel Tower as well. More information available at the link here.

The entrance of The Eiffel Tower is located at Level 5 inside The Parisian Macao or one can also enter from the main building outside. Locate the Eiffel Tower Souvenir Shop at Level 5 and the entrance is just next to it. The Eiffel Tower is open daily from 11am to 11pm. Do check their website to make sure it’s open as the tower can be closed for some activity at times.

As soon as we got our tickets, we were ushers to have a photoshoot. In fact, I like this idea as they will impose our photo with the Eiffel Tower, saving me to try and take one nice one for me and my family.

The first sight of The Eiffel Tower, I had to pinch myself… just to make sure I was really awake.

The structure stood right in front of me and I was in awe for a few minutes. Taking into sight of the glorious tower, set against the blue sky backdrop, I felt a sense of happiness warming up my soul. I am finally here, standing in front of The Eiffel Tower.

Next to the Eiffel Tower, I spied gold statues of some Greek Gods. It was such a mesmerizing sight!

We spent quite a while admiring the tower from a far and taking lots of photos.

To get to the tower, one passes the Love Lock Bridge, an exact replica of the same one in Paris too. It is said that lovers will remain together forever if they were to attach a lock with their names on it at the Love Lock Bridge. From the looks of the bridge, plenty of lovers have already been here since its opening in 2016.

One can bring their own or simply buy one from the kiosk nearby…

The stroll to The Eiffel Tower was a slow one… taking time to absorb the amazing structure and architecture of the tower built using 2,800 tonnes of steel. Although this tower was only half the size of the original, it was still an impressive scale. The observation decks are at Level 7 and 37.
As I look below the tower, there is a pretty greenery maze with a water fountain. Such picture-perfect sight that beckons one to stroll around there…

There are pretty settings at the deck and one simply cannot help but to pose and snap away to our hearts content!

We took the high-speed elevator up to Level 37. For someone who is afraid of height, I was a little nervous as we were on our way up. As soon as the door of the elevator open, I felt a moment of breathlessness as I watched the amazing sight right before my eyes.

My little one squealed in delight as we all walked out to the observation deck and stood to admire the sight of Macao stretched way into the horizon. It was also a little windy and I couldn’t help but felt a little nervous again.

However, it was only a few minutes before I was moving around to capture all the beautiful sights of the City of Lights. I am pretty sure it would also be just as amazing in the evening with all the glittering lights.

One can stroll 360 degrees around the deck to catch all views. We find ourselves lost in awe of the view and spent quite a while on the deck.

Peek hole for the those who dare to look down!

Little one left his name on the tower with a wet brush….

The gorgeous sight of The Parisian Macao building!

It was hard to leave to go back down but we did. More visitors were coming up and we also wanted to explore Macao city. As soon as we went back down, we walked around the tower and saw this lovely Café de Paris. The menu offers light bites and drinks as well as desserts.

We wished that we had time to enjoy the café but at last we did not…

We also spied a team preparing the ice skating ring to usher in the Christmas and New Year… this would have been awesome if the ice skating was already ready when we were there. Oh well, at least I know others will really enjoy this…

Our photo for the memories….

It was such a wonderful experience and I left The Eiffel Tower in a sense of happiness… knowing that I have at been to The Eiffel Tower with my loved ones. Truly an experience that I will remember for a long time to come…

We strolled through The Parisian Macao after we left The Eiffel Tower and saw the majestic grand lobby centerpiece. A Christmas tree hanged upside down, set against the gorgeous painted ceiling dome filled with Greek legends had many staring at this for a few minutes.

The water fountain is also flanked by more statues and epitomizes legends of the untold…

As we left The Parisian Macao and The Eiffel Tower stood at sight next to it, I felt truly blessed to be able to see such a sight. Located on The Cotai Strip, The Parisian Macao is truly worthy of a visit when one is in Macao. There are also many other hotels nearby that looks very impressive as well. Oh well… I guess I will just have to return again with my family another day for them….
